Biography

Janet M. Carey has been a contract paralegal for 23 years, with 38 years in the legal field. Her expertise is in the area of complex litigation -- having dealt effectively with large document cases concerning labor law, age discrimination, regulatory and banking, bankruptcy, anti-trust, probate and family law.


Janet is now specializing in writing Demand Letters, both simple and complex, for personal injury cases.


Beginning in 1988 in Dallas, Texas and subsequently in Phoenix, Arizona she provided contract paralegal services to attorneys and corporate legal departments. Returning to her hometown of Denver in 2001, she has been practicing in the Denver metropolitan area since that time. Janet has a fully accredited paralegal certificate from the University of Texas.


Janet has special skills in Case and Database Management, Coding, Computer Systems and drafting legal documents. She worked extensively in Family Law for the Orange County District Attorney’s Family Support Division, and the Texas Attorney Generals office, Family Support Division in Dallas. She has seven years of experience in Criminal Law, and has nine years of study and training in Federal Indian Law and Policy.

Education

In addition to her career in the legal field, Janet has earned a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Texas at Austin in Sociology, a Master’s Degree in Anthropology, and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Northern Arizona University at Flagstaff. She has taught at the university level, teaching courses on a contract basis, at Metropolitan State College of Denver, from 2002 to the present in both Political Science and Anthropology.

Currently

As well as being a member of the Colorado Freelance Paralegal Network, Janet is a member of the Rocky Mountain Paralegal Association, Freelance Section.


Janet has 30 years of experience and expertise in legal transcription involving verbatim transcription for Courts, and has transcribed for numerous governmental agencies. Janet understands the Official Emergency Radio 10-Code and has transcribed for law enforcement agencies.
