B. Elyse Tipton has worked as a paralegal for 25 years.  Her specialty is civil litigation, including contracts, civil rights and employment discrimination.  She has experience at all levels, from document handling and general case organization to researching and writing motions and briefs at the trial and appellate court levels.  In addition, she has prepared for and assisted at numerous trials in federal and state courts, as well as in various arbitration forums, at times acting as de facto “second chair.”

 Elyse was a paralegal for the Denver firm of Kelly|Haglund|Garnsey and Kahn, LLC, for 19 years before forming her own company, Paralegal Options, Inc., to provide services on a contract basis.

 Prior to becoming a paralegal, Elyse received a B.A. and M.A. in English and American Literature and was employed as an editor for small publishing houses and state agencies.  She has called on this experience and training in editing and polishing the work of others throughout her career.

 Representative Work Experience: 

  • Trial to court to recover public funds misappropriated by investment advisor.  Duties included coordination of nationwide discovery, drafting of motions, assistance at trial and research and drafting of appeal brief.
  • Settlement in favor of numerous plaintiffs who sued their employer for discrimination in connection with an “English Only” policy.  Case included extensive discovery and coordination of efforts with EEOC and other parties and drafting of motions.
  • Jury trial of age discrimination suit.  Duties included extensive discovery, drafting of jury instructions, preparation of exhibits and assisting at trial, including participation in jury instruction conference.
  • Jury trial of action concerning interpretation of employment contract.  Duties included discovery, preparation of exhibits, research and drafting of motions and jury instructions and assistance at trial.
  • Dismissal of charges of racial discrimination against homeowners association.  Duties included coordination of efforts with co-counsel, preparation of and responses to discovery, drafting of jury instructions and assistance at pretrial hearings.
  • Trial to court regarding interpretation of real estate commission contract.  Duties included discovery, trial preparation and assistance at trial.
